This tour focuses on Oahu’s lush windward coast and begins as we cruise along Kamehameha Highway toward the Laie Hawaii Temple, which is sometimes referred to as the “Taj Mahal of the Pacific”. Then, we will visit Kualoa Ranch.
Next, we will travel through the rural communities of Waikane and Kahaluu as we head into the Valley of the Temples, for a stop at the Byodo-In Temple.
When we get back on Kamehameha Highway, we are off to catch one of the best views on Oahu, from the Nuuanu Pali Lookout. In 1795, King Kamehameha I won a battle at this site that ultimately joined Oahu under his rule. This furious fight claimed the lives of many soldiers, many of which met their demise when they were forced from the Pali’s sheer cliffs.
After our stop at the Pali Lookout, we will cruise south on the Pali Highway toward town where we will pass by the Hawaii State Capitol, Iolani Palace, Aliiolani Hale (to see the famed gold-leaf statue of King Kamehameha the Great), Honolulu Hale, and Kawaiahao Church. Kawaiahao Church was constructed between 1836 – 1842 using approximately 14,000 half-ton slabs of coral rock quarried off the southern coast of Oahu.
Lunch Hank’s
east along Kapiolani Park toward the Diamond Head Crater Lookout. After taking a few pics, we will cruise through the Kahala neighborhood leading us onto Kalanianaole Highway heading in the direction of the Hanauma Bay Nature Reserve.
As we hele (go; move) on, our trek up Oahu’s Ka Iwi coast begins. Here, you will be guided alongside one of the most beautiful coastlines in all of Hawaii. You will see some of Oahu’s most expensive residential neighborhoods, beautiful beaches, collapsed cinder cone craters, coves, blowholes, and more! As a bonus, during the winter months (late December – early April), while overlooking the Kaiwi Channel, we may get lucky and see some Humpback Whales spouting and breaching as part of their annual migration.
We will then cruise through Waimanalo on our way to Tropical Farms where you can experience their world-famous Macadamia Nuts. Once we continue, we will visit Chinaman’s Hat, an iconic cone-shaped basalt islet situated in Kaneohe Bay.
Lastly, before we say A Hui Hou (until we meet again), we will continue to work our way back North through the small communities of Kaaawa and Hauula, stopping by Laie State Wayside Park for a few pics of a natural Sea Arch.
